When the Library of America packaged Elmore Leonard's crime novels they wanted to capture the gritty realism as well as the stylish, colorful character of his renowned dialogue. Using a transfer print process, I physically worked the type to echo the complex, urban feel of the novels with the general feel of a crime scene itself. Associate Publisher Brian McCarthy and I went back and forth on developing iconography that best fit the myriad books in the collection.
